A 20-metre black triangle reframes a familiar Madrid square
A 20-metre black triangular installation, Panóptico, brought a different way of looking at Madrid’s Plaza de Cibeles.
The city’s advertised visiting period ended at 20:00 local time on October 24; that time has passed, but we have not confirmed an extension or completed removal.
Why look through a small opening?
Urban artist SpY’s work stood in front of CentroCentro. The city describes small openings at different heights framing fragments of architecture and landscape. Rather than scanning the square all at once, visitors encounter details by approaching the structure. This differs from climbing a tall viewing platform. The city’s description alone does not establish the internal optics or how any cameras operate.
What does 20 metres measure?
It is the structure’s stated height, not an attendance figure or the number of levels visitors can climb. Europa Press registered a 1 minute 42 second ambient-sound video filmed in Madrid on October 20. Its public representative frame shows the black triangle against the Cibeles building. That separately checks appearance and placement, not an independent height survey. We do not claim to have watched the full video or verified every visitor interaction.

What has ended, and what is unconfirmed?
The city’s October 20 notice offered free access from 10:00 to 20:00 through October 24. Early October 25 in Korea is still late October 24 in Madrid, but the advertised closing time has passed. This is therefore not advice that readers can visit now. A scheduled closing and physical removal are separate facts. Without a follow-up notice, we do not add a removal date or onward destination.
What follows in the landscape program?
The same notice lists separate Madrid es Paisaje activities from October 28: family workshops at viewing areas, guided visits to six urban viewpoints, a Retiro public-art walk, and Cineteca films on October 28–30. Family workshops are for ages 6–13. These are not an extension of Panóptico itself. Booking and cinema pages provide individual conditions; remaining spaces and free admission to every activity are not guaranteed here.
