The 675,000 hot dogs sold inside 2026 World Cup stadiums would stretch about 135 kilometres if placed end to end.

No one actually made that line; FIFA calls the operational figures preliminary, and the WhatsApp number is a momentary peak during the final.

Does the 135-kilometre comparison add up?

FIFA reported nearly 675,000 hot dogs sold across 104 matches in 39 days. End to end, it estimates they would cover about 135 kilometres, or more than 1,350 football pitches in one line.

Fans also consumed more than 5.5 million beers and 4.6 million soft drinks and bottled waters. Cumulative stadium attendance exceeded 6.8 million.

The grass and teams kept moving too

Sixteen stadium pitches and 77 training pitches received 300,000 square metres of custom-grown turf. That is roughly 42 football pitches, but it was a supply total across many sites rather than one continuous lawn.

Team operations recorded 11,337 movements. The total combines buses, kit vans, flights and road transfers; it does not mean every team visited that many places.

The workforce dwarfed the player count

There were 1,248 players. Behind them worked more than 43,000 volunteers and 73,700 accredited security personnel, with security alone accounting for over one million shifts.

Production used 5,000 cameras and created more than 24,000 content items. The official tournament footprint covered 645 sites across three countries.

Phones surged during the final

Meta says WhatsApp exceeded 30 million messages per second during the final. That surpassed the 29-million-per-second record set during the Argentina-Egypt round-of-16 match.

This was a peak for the entire global service, not a per-person rate. Meta did not reveal message contents; it reported aggregate handling volume for end-to-end encrypted conversations.

How to read the figures

FIFA describes the final operational totals as preliminary. Food sales, attendance, movements and turf are different units, so they are scale comparisons rather than a single performance score.

Even so, they show how one ball tournament simultaneously moved food, transport, communications and broadcast systems on an extraordinary scale.
