This is not just another wallet feature. At some U.S. airport checkpoints, identity verification is starting to split between people who still present a physical ID and eligible travelers who can move through with facial comparison and a digital wallet workflow. On June 24, 2026, TSA said Google Wallet became the first digital wallet to offer TSA PreCheck Touchless ID, tied to participating airports and more than 100 TSA PreCheck airlines.

The other side of the shift is friction for unprepared travelers. TSA says passengers without acceptable ID, including non REAL ID compliant state IDs, can use ConfirmID starting February 1, 2026, but it is a $45 fee-based option and the identification process averages 10 to 15 minutes and can exceed 30 minutes. In practical terms, airport identity is becoming easier for some people and more expensive and slower for others.

  1. If you have U.S. flights, check whether both your airport and airline participate in TSA PreCheck Touchless ID.
  2. Even if you plan to use a digital ID flow, carry a physical ID or passport because availability is not universal at every checkpoint.
  3. If you may not have a REAL ID or another acceptable ID, do not assume ConfirmID is a free fix. It adds both cost and time.
  4. For summer travel, give yourself extra airport time and check wallet eligibility during airline check-in rather than at the security line.
