Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator fire recall checklist
NHTSA says affected Jeep Wrangler and Gladiator owners should park outside and away from structures until repairs are available.

What changed

On June 9, 2026, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued an urgent park-outside warning for 1,076,999 model year 2021-2025 Jeep Gladiator and Wrangler vehicles. The concern involves an electrical connection in the electric hydraulic power steering pump wiring. NHTSA says a fire may occur even when the vehicle is turned off.

NHTSA said it is aware of 51 potentially related fires and one injury. Owner notification letters are expected on July 9, 2026, and VIN or license plate lookup was expected to be available from June 11, 2026.

Check today if

  • You own or regularly drive a 2021-2025 Jeep Wrangler or Gladiator.
  • You bought a U.S.-market vehicle, imported one, or use one as a used, rental, fleet, camping, or off-road vehicle.
  • The vehicle is usually parked in a garage, underground parking area, near a wall, or close to other vehicles.
  • You manage vehicles for family, work, rental, or travel use.

What to do first

  1. Park the vehicle outside, away from buildings, garages, and other vehicles.
  2. Check the 17-character VIN or license plate in NHTSA's recall lookup.
  3. Confirm the same information through Mopar recalls or FCA customer service.
  4. Keep the vehicle outside until the recall repair path is ready and completed.
  5. If you notice a power-steering warning, burning smell, smoke, or electrical odor, stop driving and contact service.

Do not confuse this with

  • This is not every Jeep vehicle. It applies to certain 2021-2025 Wrangler and Gladiator vehicles.
  • A lookup can lag behind registration updates, so check again later if your vehicle seems likely to be affected.
  • The immediate safety action is already clear: park outside and away from structures until repaired.
  • Outside the United States, imported or previously U.S.-sold vehicles should still be checked by VIN.
