The Beatles Story plans a 2028 move to Liverpool’s former market; current venue stays open
Liverpool’s Beatles Story attraction plans to move and expand into the former St Johns Market in 2028.
The new venue is not open; official guidance says the existing attraction continues operating in 2026 and 2027.
From the docks to a city-centre market
Apple Corps’ announcement places the new venue at St Johns Shopping Centre, opposite Lime Street station, replacing the Albert Dock location. Its 100,000 square feet equal about 9,290 square metres, more than four times the current footprint. That comparison concerns the attraction, not the consolidation of every Beatles site in Liverpool. A separate Yellow Submarine-themed viewing experience is planned for nearby St Johns Beacon.
Film sets are part of the exhibition plan
Original artefacts, immersive technology and reconstructed settings would tell the story from Liverpool childhoods through Hamburg and international success. Some sets and props from Sam Mendes’ four Beatles films are to be reused. The films’ planned April 2028 release and the venue’s planned 2028 opening are separate schedules. There is no basis for assuming the attraction opens in the same month as the films.

More visitors are not the whole cultural story
AP directly consulted University of Liverpool Beatles expert Mike Jones, who saw the combination of films and attractions as both opportunity and risk. He warned against reducing the city and band’s history to a theme-park experience. The operator plans a trust supporting emerging local artists through ticket revenue, but funding details and results are not yet established. Tourism benefits therefore remain expectations rather than achieved outcomes.
Current visits and future bookings need different checks
Registering interest is a route to updates and ticket-sale alerts, not a completed reservation. The exact opening date, prices and detailed access conditions need further announcements. Official pages also differ over whether management transfers in 2027 or 2028, so that year is not treated as settled here. For a visit now, check the existing venue’s hours and entry terms; for the new one, await the schedule and sales notice.
