The UK heat briefing now needs a sharper action frame. This is no longer just a high-temperature note. The Met Office has issued a Red Extreme Heat Warning for parts of England and Wales from 09:00 Wednesday 24 June to 21:00 Thursday 25 June, with June temperature records forecast to break and temperatures expected to reach at least 39°C in places.
UKHSA has red heat-health alerts for London, the East of England, East Midlands, South East, South West and West Midlands from 01:00 on 24 June to 23:00 on 25 June. National Rail says if you are travelling to, from or within the red warning zone on 24 or 25 June, you should only travel if absolutely necessary.
Five checks for today
- Check whether your 24-25 June UK plan overlaps the red warning zone.
- For rail journeys, check National Rail and your train operator again just before departure.
- Cut avoidable mid-day walking, queues, sightseeing and outdoor events.
- Plan water, shade, light clothing and indoor cooling stops before leaving.
- If travelling with children, older adults, pregnant travellers or people with heart or breathing conditions, prioritise air-conditioned indoor routes.
