Giant pandas Ping Ping and Fu Shuang arrived in Atlanta
The move is part of a ten-year conservation research partnership between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association. The zoo, China’s forestry authority and local reporting agree on the date and identities.
Ping Ping was born March 17, 2020, and Fu Shuang October 18, 2020, at the Chengdu Research Base. A public debut date will be announced after quarantine and adjustment.
Why the return stands out
Atlanta’s previous program ran from 1999 to 2024 and produced seven cubs. The former four residents returned to China in 2024, leaving a roughly two-year pause before this new pair.
Quarantine is not an exhibit
The biosecure period is for health checks and adaptation. Visitors cannot see the pandas yet, so speculative dates online should not be treated as an official opening.

What conservation cooperation means
The partnership covers care, breeding, disease work and research exchange. Arrival alone does not measure recovery in the wild, which depends on habitat connectivity and reserve management.
What comes next
The zoo plans announcements on the habitat and public opening. The next verifiable milestones are completion of quarantine, an official viewing date and published research outcomes.
