Two races of 410 laps on Sunday… O’Ward wins both and Palou is a five-time champion
The rain-interrupted IndyCar race at the Milwaukee Mile in the United States and the originally scheduled second race ended on Sunday, August 30, with drivers running a total of 410 laps in one day. Pato O’Ward won both races and Álex Palou secured his fifth career championship with one race left in the season.
That doesn’t mean O’Ward won a single 410-lap race or was the season’s champion. They won two separate races on the same day, and the overall winner of the season is Palou.
Why were two games played in one day?
The 250-mile race, which started Saturday, was halted after 124 laps due to rain. The remaining 126 laps resumed on Sunday morning, with another 250-mile/250-lap race scheduled after that race. Including the restart section, the actual driving distance on Sunday is 376 laps, but the total distance for the two races is calculated to be 410 laps.
How did O’Ward win twice?
After the first race resumed, O’Ward had a wheel problem during a pit stop and fell behind, but regained the lead in the second half. In the second race, he managed the final fuel and tire strategy and the overtaking section to cross the finish line ahead of Scott McLaughlin. Both wins will each be recorded as independent official wins.

How was Palou’s fifth title confirmed?
Palow maintained the necessary lead over the two games to take an undeniable lead with the final race scheduled for September 6. With this win, they are a five-time champion in total and the last four seasons in a row. There is a distinction to be made between being fastest in a race and having the most points for an entire season.
What does 410 laps a day mean to a driver?
The Milwaukee Mile is a short, flat oval course that is one mile long. Because of the wind, the hot car, and the repeated high-speed corners, it was important to stay hydrated and focus. However, not all athletes completed 410 laps, and the actual number of runs varied depending on collisions, maintenance, and lap downs.
What is the next confirmation
The final game of the season will be held in Laguna Seca on September 6. Palou’s championship status has been confirmed, but the second place and lower rankings and detailed team/manufacturer records may vary depending on the results of the final race. The official race classification table and season points table are the sources for accurate lap counts and rankings.
