Will gravity disappear for seven seconds today? The eclipse hoax explained
The claim that Earth’s gravity will disappear for 7 seconds during the total solar eclipse on August 12th is not true.
A solar eclipse is an event that blocks sunlight, not an event that removes the Earth’s mass or gravity.
What claim was spread?
A video featuring the so-called Project Anchor and secret NASA documents spread again on social media. There is a specific date and the number 7 seconds attached, but there is no original text from NASA to support this.
What actually happens
The actual event is a total solar eclipse visible from the Arctic Circle and Spain. The moon passes in front of the sun and blocks the light, but no people or objects float in the air.
Why did it sound plausible?
Ghostam attached fake organization names and large damage numbers to the actual date of the eclipse. Just because one real schedule is mixed up doesn’t mean the rest of the claims are true.
Why can’t gravity be turned off?
Gravity at the Earth’s surface is primarily due to the Earth’s mass. The alignment of the Moon in front of the Sun does not eliminate Earth’s mass. The tidal changes measured during a solar eclipse are within the usual predictable range and cannot be compared to the degree to which objects float.
What should I check?
Astronomical phenomena can be confirmed using calculation tables from NASA and each country’s astronomical organizations. If your only source is an image with your organization’s logo on it, you’ll need to find the same document again on the official domain. For safety reasons, only certified eclipse viewing glasses are required and no gravity dissipation provisions are required.
