She swept four golds, then carried the flag
Wales cyclist Emma Finucane won gold in all four track sprint events she entered at Glasgow 2026. She became the first Welsh athlete to win four gold medals at a single Commonwealth Games.
This is not four Olympic or world titles. One of the medals, the team sprint, was shared with two teammates.
Which four gold medals?
Finucane entered four sprint events and finished each one with gold.

How was the fourth gold decided?
The keirin was her final event on August 2. Finucane topped her first-round heat, won again in the second round and then crossed the line first in the six-rider final.
That victory completed four golds across four days of racing. Welsh teammate Lowri Thomas finished sixth in the same final.
What do the two record times mean?
Finucane set a Commonwealth Games record of 10.322 seconds in the individual sprint. The next day she won the 1km time trial in another Games record, 1 minute 05.285 seconds.
They are measurements from different events. The 10.322 figure is not a one-kilometre finishing time, so the two numbers should not be compared directly.
Did she win all four alone?
The individual sprint, 1km time trial and keirin were individual victories. The opening team sprint gold came from a three-rider event.
The total is therefore three individual golds and one team gold. Four titles at one Games is accurate, but she did not race every event alone.
Why did she carry the flag at the end?
Team Wales selected Finucane as its Closing Ceremony flag bearer after her fourth victory. The 23-year-old led the Welsh delegation into the final event with her medals behind the choice.
Carrying the flag was not a fifth medal. It was a ceremonial job and a neat final scene after four trips to the top step of the podium.
